Theme: Blessing Frustrated and Restored Passage: Genesis 1–3 Notice the progression in God’s blessing in the opening scenes of Genesis: 1.       God’s Blessing through His Word allows us to flourish in His world (Gen. 1:26–28). a.       Imaging God b.       Being fruitful and filling the earth c.       Exercising Dominion 2.       Disobedience to God’s Word separated us from God and brought His curse upon and frustrated our flourishing in His world (3:13–19). a.       Death b.       Blessing through suffering 3.       God enables blessing and re-establishes flourishing through His promised seed (Gen. 3:15). a.       Familial Seed b.       Divine Seed c.       Corporate Seed Main Idea: God’s people flourish under God’s blessing by embracing His Promised Seed. Application Questions: ·     How does the image of God inform our understanding of God’s plan to extend blessing to humanity through his creation? ·     Knowing that God extends blessing and flourishing to us if we submit our lives to Him as revealed in His word, why do we choose to reject God and disobey His word? Why does humanity not want to experience God’s plan to bless us? How do you see this struggle play out in your life? ·     What are some examples from scripture of blessing through suffering? How should this affect the way we think about and approach life as a follower of Jesus? ·     Read Galatians 3:29 and Romans 16:20. What do these passages teach us about the church and Genesis 3:15? How should we anticipate this occurring in our church today?
