Title: Making Jesus Known Passage: John 17:6–19 Main Idea: Jesus has made himself known to His followers so that they make His glory known in the world.  The 3 Rs of Making Jesus known: 1.       Reasons (6–11a):  a.       Jesus has made the Father known to us. b.       The Father has given us to the Son. c.       We share in and shine Jesus’ glory (10). d.       We are the manifestation of His glory left on the earth (11a). 2.       Reassurances (Jesus’ requests) (11b–19): a.       We have the protection of the Father (11b–16). b.       We are being made holy by the truth of God’s word fulfilled in Jesus’ work (17–19). 3.       Results: a.       Jesus is glorified (10). b.       We are united (11). c.       We have the full measure of Jesus’ joy within us (13b). Application Questions: ·     Why should it be an encouragement that Jesus prayed for His followers? How does this encourage you in your relationship with God and carrying out His mission in this world? ·     What does making Jesus known look like in practice within our lives today (v. 6)? ·     Why would Jesus not pray for this world but exclusively for His followers (9)? How does v. 10 help answer this? ·     What is it that Jesus prays for His Father to do for His followers (see vv. 11 and 17)? Why do we as his followers need the Father to do these things for us? ·     From this passage, how should we anticipate being received in our continuing the mission Jesus started? How does this relate to Jesus’ requests for us? What does this passage teach us about sanctification (see vv. 17–19)?
