Theme: Jesus Prayer for Unity Passage: John 17:20–24 Notice Jesus’ prayer for us: 1.       That we may be one (20–23) a.       Description          i.        Unity mirrors the relationship of Father and Son (21)         ii.        Unity incorporates us into relationship with the Godhead (21, 23)        iii.        Unity stems from the Father’s glory revealed in the Son and given to us (22). b.       Purpose:       i.        The world may come to believe the Father sent the Son (21).      ii.        The world may know that the Father loves those who believe in the Son (23). 2.       That we may be where Christ is (24) a.       To see His full glory b.       To see the Father’s eternal love for the Son Main Idea: Our unity reveals Jesus’ glory—the mission and love of God for those who are His. Application Questions: ·     What is Jesus getting at when He said, “may they also be in us” (21) and “that they may be one—I in them and you in me” (22b–23a)? How do we relate to God in this way? ·     What further facets or possibly new facets do you see in this passage about the glory of God? ·     What should oneness look like in the church among fellow believers? ·     Why is the content of this prayer vital to understanding missions? How does Jesus’ request impact our understanding of missions? ·     How has this passage challenged you in your relationship with others within this church? Has it revealed some areas in your own life that need correcting and repentance? What is the Spirit convicting you to do in response?
