Truth Worth Living: Seven Deadly Sins — Deadly How? Why are the “seven deadly sins” called deadly? This week in Truth Worth Living, we looked at that question through 1 John 5 and the biblical truth that all sin is deadly apart from the forgiveness we receive through Jesus Christ. Romans 6:23 reminds us: “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Pride, envy, gluttony, lust, anger, greed, and sloth may not take away the eternal life Christ has secured for every believer, but they can drain our spiritual vitality, weaken our walk with God, and rob us of the joy and strength we are meant to have in Him. The good news is that God has given us a clear path of forgiveness: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” — 1 John 1:9 We do not have to stay tangled up in sin. We can come directly to God, confess our sins, and receive His gracious forgiveness and cleansing. That is a beautiful truth for life. And that is Truth Worth Living. Next week, we begin looking at the deadly and debilitating sin of pride.
